FAQ

That’s a Good Question!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a member to attend events?

Monthly club meetings and public star parties are open to everyone — no membership required. Some member-only observing nights are for current members only.

How much does membership cost?

Individual: $25/year. Family: $35/year. Junior (under 18): $15/year. Dues are prorated by quarter when joining mid-year — so you never pay for time you haven’t had as a member.

When do annual dues reset?

Dues reset on January 1 each year. All memberships are on a calendar-year basis regardless of when you joined.

Do I need a telescope to participate?

Not at all. Many members attend meetings and star parties without their own equipment. At star parties, members share their telescopes freely. If you want to try a telescope before buying one, ask about the Loaner Scope Program.

What telescope should I buy as a beginner?

This is one of the most common questions, and the answer depends on your budget, goals, and situation. We strongly recommend borrowing from the Loaner Scope Program first and asking for guidance at a monthly meeting before making any purchase.

Are star parties cancelled if it’s cloudy?

Yes — all telescope viewing events are weather dependent. Cancellations are announced via email to members and posted on the website and Facebook page. Always check on the day of the event.

How do I request an outreach visit for my school or group?

Contact us through the Contact page and describe your group, location, and preferred dates. We’ll do our best to accommodate your request.

Is PAC a nonprofit?

Yes. The Prescott Astronomy Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible.
